The Opportunity

Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for an early-career Water Resource Planning position focused on stormwater and coastal modeling including computational fluid dynamics modeling, coastal planning and design, water quality and integrated planning. The role supports planning, water resources, stormwater, and asset management services to address challenges such as stormwater management, flood control, coastal erosion, sea level rise, conveyance/transmission condition assessment, aging infrastructure, and population growth planning.

Key Responsibilities

Support hydrologic and hydraulic planning, modeling, and design of stormwater and wet weather improvements (open channels, storm sewers, detention/retention facilities, dams, levees, reservoirs). Support hydraulic modeling of coastal systems including ports, wave action, sediment transport, coastal erosion, and surge impacts. Support hydraulic modeling of water and wastewater facilities utilizing CFD (e.g., contact basins, sedimentation basins, clarifiers). Support planning and design of green infrastructure, low impact development, and sustainable watershed measures (structural BMPs). Support erosion and sediment control planning and design, including SWPPP development. Interface with innovative stormwater, water quality, and planning partners to leverage new technologies and approaches for client benefits.

Preferred Qualifications

5 years of water resources planning, stormwater design, dam safety, and/or condition assessment experience Master of Science degree in engineering preferred Experience developing and executing water resource planning and design projects Proficiency with virtual collaboration tools (MS Teams, WebEx, Zoom) Proficiency with: Microsoft Office; Ansys CFX or other CFD; ESRI ArcGIS or QGIS; AutoCAD; HEC-RAS; HEC-HMS; EPA/XP-SWMM; InfoWorks Capable of conducting site reconnaissance and remote investigations Experience with regulatory requirements and procedures (FEMA, USACE, EPA) preferred Support client-facing and business development efforts

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program Minimum of 5 years related work experience

Certifications

Professional Engineering License (or ability to acquire within 2 years) CFM (preferred)

Work Environment

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days at manager discretion, based on performance and work assignments.
