Req#: 4954888 Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting the Public Works Superintendent in all aspects of assigned County Service Center operations; assists Public Works Superintendent in roadway/street and drainage construction, street maintenance and repair throughout assigned areas of County; and performs related duties as required. Assists in supervision of all work activities performed by staff at assigned County Service Center Assists in planning and distribution of daily work assignments and resources at assigned County Service Center Responds to requests, inquiries and complaints from general public Assists in monitoring production rates, equipment utilization and material resource management Examines existing streets, roadways and drainage sites within assigned area for safety and maintenance levels Inspects on-going street, roadway and drainage projects to ensure construction is performed according to specifications Oversees scheduling of equipment, material and personnel necessary for efficient management of projects Ensures safe, careful operation of light to heavy construction equipment by all service center personnel Assists in preparation and monitoring of annual County Service Center budget May operate light to heavy maintenance or construction equipment as necessary Performs related duties as required Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and five (5) years experience in roadway construction and maintenance work, including one (1) year supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Considerable knowledge of road repair/maintenance methods and procedures; considerable knowledge of all road construction tools and equipment; good knowledge of safety standards and practices; knowledge of general office administration; knowledge of budget preparation procedures Skill in the operation of all roadway maintenance tools and equipment; skill in basic mathematics and general engineering functions Ability to perform a variety of road repair and maintenance functions including the operation of heavy road construction equipment and machinery; ability to supervise, train, schedule and review to work of others; ability to coordinate the use of labor, materials and equipment; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, department heads, County employees, outside agencies/vendors and the general public Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license Must secure and maintain a non-commercial pesticide applicator license from Texas Department of Agriculture within six (6) months of employment, promotion or transfer Required to be on-call 24-hours a day May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek Working Environment and Physical Demands
