Company
Boeing Technology Innovation (BTI) is looking for a high performing, collaborative Electromagnetic Effects Research Engineer/Physicist (Mid Level, Senior) to join our Electromagnetics Effects (EME) team in North Charleston, SC. Successful candidates will evaluate, analyze, and measure EM properties of advanced materials and configurations and develop new EM digital engineering processes to be deployed across the Boeing Company and with our customers.
Position Responsibilities
Impact technical investigations, as negotiated and assigned, independently or with a small team of engineers.
Maintain and advance computational electromagnetic and multi-physics tools, to include time- and frequency-domain methods in both low frequency and high frequency models.
Apply electromagnetic theory to develop advanced electrical analysis and measurement techniques and test processes for determining lightning direct effects and static charge performance on carbon fiber composites and mixed-material structural interfaces.
Interface with materials engineers for the definition and qualification of new materials that meet lightning direct effects and static charge performance requirements, while meeting structural and manufacturing engineering requirements.
Advise, design, and define necessary testing to characterize materials in electromagnetic environments.
Apply knowledge of antenna design, RF spectrum, transmitter and receiver architectures, and RF distribution system components to coupling analyses, interference mitigation, propagation studies, and the definition of interference thresholds.
Develop and validate electromagnetic requirements for electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures.
Collaborate with multiple disciplines in developing architectures to integrate components into higher level systems and platforms.
Support project management by coordinating the development of work statements, schedule, budget, and fabrication plans for test articles and fixtures for appropriate reviews in a research-focused and milestone-defined environment.
Develop proposals to support development of new business.
Apply knowledge of development, production, certification, qualification, quality assurance and acceptance testing to satisfy and verify alignment with governing regulations and compliance requirements.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
Engineering experience with EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), or E3 (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects).
Experience working within engineering teams for the definition and execution of work.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor's degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, or aerospace.
Experience with computational electromagnetic software (CST, COMSOL, FEKO, EMA3D, etc. or self-developed FEM or FDTD solvers).
Knowledge of Electromagnetic principles.
Experience with the phenomena, analysis, and testing of lightning direct effects, lighting indirect effects, electrostatics, precipitation statics, and/or HIRF.
