Engineering Drafter
Location: Austin, TX 78744
Employment Type: Full‑Time, Contract (12 months with possible extension)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM start, 40 hours/week
Compensation: $21 – $23 per hour (W2 with benefits)
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Job Summary The Engineering Drafter performs entry‑level drafting tasks to support engineering and technical operations. This role develops competence through structured assignments and receives guidance from supervisors and experienced colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret engineering and construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Use AutoCAD and other computer‑aided design tools to prepare detailed engineering drawings, maps, and graphs from sketches, layouts, and reference materials.
Clearly indicate revisions and maintain drawing documentation according to standard procedures.
Assist in drafting procurement and solicitation documents using established templates and formats.
Conduct field and office research to gather measurements, review historical drawings, and access technical records for design and layout purposes.
Prepare basic specifications, materials lists, and fixed capital unit (FCU) documentation.
Perform data entry into engineering databases and systems.
Generate basic reports related to projects, equipment, assets, and budgets; assist with more complex reporting as needed.
Operate office equipment including plotters, printers, copiers, and scanners.
Minimum Qualifications
1+ years of experience in technical drafting using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
Associate degree or certification in computer‑aided design or a related technical field may substitute for experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic understanding of engineering and drafting principles, standards, and techniques.
Familiarity with electronic document management systems (EDMS) and work management systems.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and office productivity software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and prints.
Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
Ability to perform accurate data entry and work effectively in a team environment.
Skill in operating office equipment used in drafting and documentation.
