Job Overview:
RWJBH is seeking a Full Time Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse Practitioner in the Valerie Fund Office Practice at NBI. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods referring questionable situations to physician. The NP provides rapid response care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients. In addition, the NPis responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
Qualifications:
Current New Jersey Registered Nurse License,
Current New Jersey Advanced Practiced Nursing License,
Master s degree in pediatric or family nursing with prescriptive privileges
2+ years of related clinical experience preferred acute care nursing
Related national NP certification
BLS certification
PALS certification
APHON chemotherapy certified
CPHON preferred

Essential Functions:
Performing daily rounds and follow-up on patients admitted to the pediatric hematology oncology service in conjunction with collaborating physicians,
Assessing the health status of patients by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination,
Ordering laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies per treatment protocols and differentiating between normal abnormal findings and altering the plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement,
Prescribing medications including chemotherapy drugs, medications for sickle cell disease and other complex hematological disorders, supportive care medications, medical devices, and other therapeutics within NJ and Federal scope of practice law for nurse practitioners,
Providing education to pediatric hematology-oncology patients and their families regarding the treatment plan,
Using evidence-based guidelines to advise and support appropriate practice changes for the pediatric hematology/oncology patient population,
Working collaboratively with nursing and pharmacy leadership to ensure timely communication of chemotherapy treatment plan and infusion schedule,
Developing and revising nursing standards and patient and family education materials as relevant to area of practice,
Advocating for patients families and supporting patients rights,
Performing all other duties as assigned
