The Senior Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Monday - Thursday, 8am-5pm and Friday, 8am-12:30pm Responsibilities
Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues. Embrace and participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities. Support and demonstrate effective and professional communication with patients and families. Work collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff. Gather patient data through interview and observation. Assist patients and families with preparation for examination. Assist the physician during examination and procedures. Demonstrate competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice. Provide routine treatments and administer approved medications as ordered by the provider. Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider. Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department policies. Act as liaison to schedule specialty testing or consults and provide scheduling information to patients. Process incoming and outgoing calls with professional judgment. Help develop and coordinate the orientation process for Medical Assistants; act as preceptor and oversee assigned preceptors as appropriate. Support and help develop quality strategies within the practice. Facilitate and participate in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants. Collaborate with clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants. Lead and participate in departmental committees and special projects. Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and applicable laws. Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions
Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in the assigned department/unit. Maintain awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory compliance. Practice efficient use of supplies. Assist business office with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients. Qualifications
Education/Training
High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or 5 years of verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting) required. Licensure/Certification
Maintains current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification. Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies: CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), or NCMA (NCCT). Experience
Minimum three (3) years as a Certified Medical Assistant.
