Summary This is a skilled field inspection and enforcement position focused on ensuring compliance with the Florida Building Code, Miami‑Dade County Code, and related plumbing regulations. The role involves inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing systems, identifying violations, and ensuring safe and sanitary plumbing installations.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct inspections of plumbing systems (new and existing) including:

Water supply and drainage systems

Septic tanks and soakage pits

Fuel gas lines, pipes, storage tanks, and appliances

Ensure installations meet legal requirements for materials, workmanship, safety, and sanitation.

Perform inspections using testing tools (e.g., air pump, pressure gauge) to verify system integrity.

Issue correction notices for violations and ensure compliance through follow‑up inspections.

Provide technical guidance to contractors, plumbers, property owners, and the general public.

Investigate public complaints and recommend appropriate actions.

Enforce storm drainage and cross‑connection control regulations.

Assist in building code violation investigations and condemnation cases.

Conduct Certificate of Use inspections and prepare accurate inspection reports.

Maintain records and documentation for inspections and code enforcement activities.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must qualify as a Plumbing Inspector under:

Miami‑Dade County Code

Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation

Must pass the State of Florida Inspector's Examination and obtain certification from the Miami‑Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals within one year of appointment.

Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License required before appointment.

May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on departmental needs.

Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of applicable plumbing codes and regulatory standards.

In‑depth understanding of plumbing systems, materials, and common installation defects.

Familiarity with historical plumbing practices in the Miami region.

Ability to interpret plumbing plans and specifications and assess code compliance.

Excellent communication and customer service skills for working with contractors and the public.

Strong attention to detail in documentation and report writing.

Ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed both indoors (office) and outdoors (construction sites, private property).

Requires frequent lifting (up to 14 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs), climbing, bending, and walking in high temperatures or dusty environments.

Frequent use of hands for tools, computers, and inspection equipment.

Requires reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
