Position Description The Field Engineer (FE) works directly for the Superintendent and is expected to exercise judgment and discretion in recommending and implementing policies and procedures, handling a wide variety of field matters. The FE is typically preparatory to roles such as Office Engineer or Project Engineer. The primary purpose is to proactively assist the Superintendent in front-line field management. The FE is responsible for the majority of layout on a project, supervision of trade workers and subcontractor employees, lift drawings, safety and quality control responsibilities. While most time is spent in the field, some duties may require time in the field office. This is a safety sensitive position.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

Project layout (surveying) in conformance with design and contract documents.

Check concrete forms for accuracy and adequacy of construction, including embedded items, before placement of concrete.

Perform production trend analysis for quantities of work in place and report for weekly and monthly schedule and cost control.

Assist with quality control, site safety initiatives and coordination of trade partners as delegated by the project superintendent. May include directing a small workforce to gain supervisory experience.

Coordinate material deliveries by checking requirements in advance and comparing with delivery status. Inspect materials for quantity, quality and condition; report missing or damaged items.

Assist foremen and trade partners with interpretation of plans and specifications.

Oversee trade partners and direct workforces to gain supervisory experience as assigned.

Participate in jobsite safety meetings and weekly safety audits.

Collaborate with the VDC team on scope of work, execution plan and deliverables related to field operations. Review and navigate within the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software.

Minimum Education & Qualifications

A 4-year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture or Construction Management.

Valid Driver’s License.

Strong communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel-based templates, ProjectSight, Primavera and AutoDesk Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

Past internships in the construction industry are preferred, but not required.

Physical Work Classification & Demands Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. The role requires walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, reading, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and typing. Reading blueprints and taking field measurements is common. Climbing, balancing, stooping, and occasional exposure to heat, cold, and outdoor elements are expected.
