Geotechnical Engineer 2 role at CDM Smith. Under general supervision, responsible for engineering designs of basic to moderate complexity in areas such as excavation, dewatering, shallow/deep foundations, dams/reservoirs/levees, and geo-environmental projects. The role includes design reviews for regulatory compliance, adherence to firm policies, site reviews, updating design requirements, soil sampling analyses and modeling, and contributing to the firm’s knowledge base with technical documentation. May create or contribute to conference materials. Responsibilities
Under general supervision, create excavation, dewatering, shallow/deep foundations, dams/reservoirs/levees, geo-environmental project designs of basic to moderate complexity to meet client project requirements. Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations; ensure firm policies and practices are followed on all designs. Perform site reviews and studies to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications; update design requirements as necessary. Perform soil sampling analyses and modeling. Contribute to the firm’s TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs and studies; submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals. May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline. 1 year of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required (travel up to 30%). Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Driver and Travel
An appropriate and valid driver's license is required. Amount Of Travel Required: 30% Skills and Abilities
Intermediate knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Knowledge of engineering principles of design. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.). Good written and verbal communication skills. EEO Statement
