Job Title: Lab Manager Department: Arts and Sciences | Microbiology Administration Responsibilities
Reviews and ensures maintenance of accurate lab records for quality control; monitors and maintains laboratory equipment and supplies; serves as Bell lab’s Safety Coordinator; works with EHS to stay compliant with safety requirements in the lab; writes SOPs and other lab related protocols. Assists Principal Investigator in grant budget planning as allowable and applicable; monitors grant purchases and helps to ensure compliance with grant purchasing policy; trains and assist in supervising graduate and undergraduate students on lab processing and protocol. Places, manages, and monitors lab ordering & tracking on behalf of the Bell lab in the Workday system; stays compliant with OSU, College, and Department purchasing policy & procedure. Designs, plans, implements, administers, and executes research projects in molecular microbiology and microbial genomics; performs laboratory techniques including whole-genome sequencing and protein isolation. Collaborates with the principal investigator to write abstracts, manuscripts, articles, and research papers for publication and presentation; develops and implements test controls and research standards to meet project goals; develops and implements new research methods and/or techniques; stays up to date on University policy and procedures. Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a major in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a closely-related field. Two years of relevant experience in biological sciences research; performing molecular and/or microbiological techniques; training others; managing budgets and logistics; managing large projects. The College of the Arts and Sciences Department of Microbiology is seeking a Lab Manager. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field. The pay range for this job profile is $55,700 - $72,700. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications. Location: Aronoff Laboratory (0131). Position Type: Term (Fixed Term). Scheduled Hours: 40.
