Position Summary Under the Nursing Leadership's direct supervision, the RN provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with complex medical, neurodevelopmental, and psychiatric health needs in accordance with the laws governing nursing practice.
Job-specific Responsibilities
Ensure scope of duties and services provided are within state nursing practice guidelines.
Assess patients' physical and mental health status through comprehensive nursing assessments, including medical history review, vital signs monitoring, and mental status examinations.
Implement individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, addressing both medical and psychiatric needs, and ensuring a therapeutic milieu.
Implement and enforce facility policies and procedures to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
Administer medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions according to physician orders and established protocols, ensuring accuracy, safety, and efficacy within the unit.
Monitor patients' response to treatments and medications and evaluate for adverse reactions, side effects, and changes in condition.
Perform nursing procedures such as wound care, IV therapy, catheterization, administration of emergency psychiatric medications, and restraint management.
Utilize milieu management strategies to promote a structured, supportive, and therapeutic environment, providing direction and leadership to floor staff, engaging in de-escalation techniques, and fostering positive interactions.
Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate integrated services.
Complete all required documentation timely, including assessments, interventions, summaries, care plans, and risk assessments.
Recognize untoward changes in patient condition promptly and facilitate appropriate interventions.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and team members.
Check and approve timesheets daily to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Access and check webmail each shift to stay informed of current events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
Experience Preferred minimum of one (1) year in an acute/post-acute or pediatric setting with previous psychiatric nursing experience.
Licensure/Certification
Current RN licensure in Texas.
Certified in BLS upon hire.
ACLS and PALS certifications within 45 days of hire.
Patient de-escalation training (SAMA) required within 30 days of hire.
Additional Information Maintains current certifications and licenses to avoid resignation.
