THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF THE SECURE TRANSPORT INVESTIGATIONS UNIT (MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH POLICE) ONLY. Main Purpose of Job:

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as a full-service police officer with both supervisory and managerial responsibilities for enforcing and ensuring that all subordinates enforce all relative Federal, State, and local laws, including all policies and procedures of the MDH Police Department. This position requires that the employee enforce the aforesaid laws, rules, and regulations in a fair, impartial, and equitable manner. This position requires the incumbent to provide guidance, training, directions, and recommendations for disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and counseling for all subordinates. This position will conduct criminal and internal investigations as required and/or assigned by the MDH Police Department. This position is supervised by the Police Manager, Executive Officers, and/or designee. All supervisors will follow the chain of command. All police operational information will flow through the chain of command. The current chain of command at Springfield Hospital Center is very clear, ascending from the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, and Chief of Police. All MDH Police Officers with the rank of Lieutenant and below will be assigned an on-call status on a rotating basis when off duty. May be reassigned to work different shifts, or recalled during weekends, holidays, or off hours to meet the Investigative and Operational needs of the MDH Police Department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation. Experience:

Three years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer. Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university in law enforcement, criminology or related social sciences for one year of the required experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Protective Service classifications or Law Enforcement specialty codes in the Military Police Officer field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application. Applicants for this classification, formerly certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as a Police Officer within the past three years and are eligible for recertification at the time of appointment, meet the certification requirement for this classification. Employees in this classification may be required to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-209, Annotated Code of Maryland. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Selection standards for Police Officer certification are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207, Annotated Code of Maryland. Must be at least 21 years of age. Satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history. Oral interview and physical examination. Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland. SELECTION PROCESS
