Position Summary The Environmental and Compliance Manager ensures company-wide compliance with environmental regulations, with a focus on hazardous waste handling, sustainability initiatives, and workplace safety. This position is directly responsible for hazardous waste licensing, storage, transportation, and disposal activities while coordinating with internal teams and external vendors. The role combines technical knowledge of regulations with strong leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient environmental practices that protect employees, communities, and business.

Essential Functions

Oversee all hazardous waste operations including labeling, storage, transport, disposal, and recycling in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Manage environmental permits and hazardous waste operating licenses, ensuring timely renewals and adherence to conditions.

Develop, maintain, and submit required reports (e.g., Tier II, TRI, RCRA biennial reports, manifests, wastewater testing).

Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and correct compliance gaps.

Lead spill response preparedness and serve as primary contact for regulatory inspections.

Implement employee training programs on hazardous materials handling, spill response, and safety procedures.

Collaborate with operations and fleet teams to integrate environmental compliance into day-to-day activities.

Track and analyze environmental performance metrics such as waste generation, recycling rates, and emissions.

Recommend and implement improvements to reduce environmental risk, improve safety, and support sustainability goals.

Maintain relationships with disposal, recycling, and testing vendors, ensuring proper certifications and performance.

Investigate incidents involving spills, releases, or non-compliance, and implement corrective actions.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of EPA, DOT, OSHA, and state environmental regulations.

Proven experience in hazardous waste management, compliance, and reporting.

Knowledge of ISO 14001 certification.

Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to influence and train employees across multiple sites and roles.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a continuous improvement mindset.

Knowledge of environmental management systems and reporting platforms.

Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with environmental tracking software preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work cross‑functionally with operations, logistics, and safety teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Safety Management, or work experience equivalent.

5–7 years of environmental management experience, preferably in oil distribution, manufacturing, or industrial services.

3–5 years supervisory experience.

Certifications such as OSHA, Haz Whopper, or equivalents preferred.

Experience with regulatory inspections and reporting.
