Primary Purpose

The 18+ Program Aide works with young adults who have low incidence disabilities, assisting the special education teacher to meet physical and instructional needs in school and community settings. The role follows the district curriculum, students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP), and Transition plans, guided by federal, state, and district policies.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED from an accredited institution 48 hours of college coursework Pass Spring ISD’s NCLB tests in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Educational Aide II Certificate (or willingness to obtain) Ability to acquire a CDL Preferred

Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university More than one year of experience working with children Previous experience as a vocational trainer or teaching aide

Work well with children, including those with disabilities Communicate effectively Collaborate with employers

Major Responsibilities And Duties

Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays Implement instructional plans to develop independent living, community access, and vocational skills Maintain records/reports required by federal, state, or local regulations Train, monitor, and coach students in classroom and community settings Respond to crisis situations and restrain disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed Work with individual students or small groups Supervise students throughout the school day Prepare a variety of documents, reports, and written materials to document student progress and performance Inform teacher of special needs or problems of individual students Transport students using a district vehicle Participate in staff development and faculty meetings as assigned Perform all other duties as assigned

Working/Special Conditions

Job may require prolonged periods of sitting, moderate standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of a computer. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. May require some lifting no more than 50 lbs. Overtime is required as necessary.
