Summary: The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Nursing is to assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations, and maintaining high-quality care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the nursing department’s daily functions.

Participate in developing and updating policies and procedures for the nursing department.

Ensure reference materials are current and assist in meeting residents’ needs.

Develop and update nursing service objectives and philosophy statements.

Assist in developing the nursing organization structure and make recommendations for its operation.

Coordinate nursing services with other resident services for continuity of care.

Ensure staff follow their job descriptions and update them as necessary.

Participate in facility surveys and inspections.

Assist in planning the nursing portion of discharge plans.

Perform administrative duties such as completing forms, reports, and evaluations.

Monitor quality improvement reports and recommend corrective actions.

Assist in staffing and scheduling, and participate in recruitment.

Ensure sufficient staffing levels and qualified personnel for each shift.

Develop work assignments and delegate responsibilities appropriately.

Assist in performance evaluations and conduct daily rounds to monitor performance.

Handle complaints and grievances fairly and report findings.

Interpret policies to staff, residents, visitors, and agencies.

Participate in resident admissions and ensure rooms are prepared.

Monitor medication and treatment schedules, and provide direct care when needed.

Participate in staff training and safety programs.

Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in nursing areas.

Assist in developing safety standards and emergency protocols.

Participate in resident assessments and care planning.

Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with privacy laws.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a Nursing Degree from an accredited institution.

Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license.

At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.

Minimum of 6 months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing.

Current CPR certification.

Proficiency in English and ability to relate well with residents and staff.

Knowledge of nursing practices, laws, and regulations.

Patience, tact, and a positive attitude.

Physical Demands:

Ability to move and lift up to 25 pounds, and perform physical tasks as required.

Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress.

Good vision and hearing, or suitable prosthetics.

Ability to work independently and effectively with others.

Must meet health requirements, including a medical exam.
