Overview The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Locksmith in the Facilities Management Division. The position reports to work in Broward County owned buildings, facilities and maintenance shops located throughout the county. This skilled position installs, repairs, and maintains locks and security systems including electronic access control locking systems.

Responsibilities

Install, repair and maintain locking mechanisms for buildings, vehicles, and high-level security facilities.

Respond to emergency lockouts and emergency work orders.

Maintain Master Key systems and records.

Install and program electronic access control locking systems and devices.

Cut and duplicate keys and re-key locks.

Use computerized maintenance management software to document statuses of maintenance work orders.

Perform other duties as assigned.

General Description Performs skilled work at the journey level in the installation and repair of locks and making keys. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requires two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of the locksmith trade or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.

Associate's degree or Vocational school certification

Certified Master Locksmith

Locksmith Online Training Course Certification

ALOA - Associated Locksmiths of America

Experience using computerized maintenance management system

Two years experience with Schlage restricted keyway

Two years experience creating master key systems

Two years experience with MIWA or similar locking systems

Certified Professional Locksmith

Certified Registered Locksmith

Scope of Work The following functions represent the majority of time spent in this class. Management may assign additional functions as necessary.

Repair and open defective locks; change lock combinations; disassemble door locks, padlocks, combination locks, and handcuffs; replace worn or broken parts; change tumblers; open locks with a lock pick when no key is available; make new and duplicate keys; change combinations on keyless locks or safes.

Generate master key systems using appropriate computer software and maintain records; repair jail electrical lock systems; adjust timers, line brushes, solenoids, capacitors, resistors, rectifiers and related parts of lock systems.

Fabricate parts for repair of obsolete locks using drill press, lathe, grinders and hand tools.

Install master key floor and building lock systems; work with journey level tradesmen in installation of locks in wood and metal doors.

Research materials needed for jobs; coordinate with outside contractors; follow up to completion to county standards; attend planning and work order update meetings.

Perform related work as assigned.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

Performs light to medium work with walking or standing most of the time; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis; high manual dexterity and precision in use of hands and tools.

Unavoidable Hazards:

Routine exposure to traffic and moving machinery.
