Overview
BD Urology and Critical Care (UCC) is seeking a Staff Engineer to join our High Volume Consumables R&D team, focusing on early‑stage design within the New Product Development (NPD) process. This role offers a unique opportunity to build expertise in Biodesign, requirements management, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), and design validation. You’ll gain hands‑on experience, benefit from structured professional development, and collaborate closely with a broad network of BD Subject Matter Experts to help shape the next generation of medical technologies.

Gain deep insights into market gaps and user pain points to identify unmet customer needs and deliver technically sound solutions.
Translate user and market insights into actionable engineering requirements aligned with product design and business objectives.
Apply DFSS methodologies, including advanced designs of experiments and critical parameters management, to understand design space and product performance limits.
Develop comprehensive project strategies, including budgeting and timeline planning, to ensure successful execution.
Navigate projects through established design control processes, including phase gates, design reviews, and technical assessments.
Qualifications
6+ years of experience as a design/development engineer.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or related field is required.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and influencing skills.
Proficient in design control processes, development, and commercialization in regulated industry. Ability to plan and monitor R&D activities; adjust to scope and timing changes.
Experience applying engineering design processes and statistical techniques in product development (e.g., Design for Six Sigma).
Ability to comprehensively plan and execute design validation.
Experience in DFM and understanding of manufacturing methods (injection molding, extrusion, stamping/forming, machining, welding and bonding).
