Overview
Job Title:
Product Engineer (USC,GC) Location:
Winamac, Indianapolis (Onsite) General Purpose The Vehicle Engineer is responsible for engineering and designing new vehicles from start to finish. This includes the design and integration of all vehicle systems found in today’s wheelchair-accessible vehicles while maintaining corporate objectives.
Responsibilities
Engineer, design, and develop new vehicle conversions in CAD (Inventor). Design mechanisms, suspensions, structures, and closures (doors & liftgates). Plan for design, procurement, assembly, and validation requirements in line with project timing and APQP processes. Ensure vehicle designs and systems conform to budgeted quality and cost targets. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Portfolio) to assure vehicle designs meet all requirements. Suggest cost-effective design alternatives, common designs, and standardization opportunities. Build and design prototype vehicles. Continuously improve designs, processes, and timing while maintaining specifications. Participate in design reviews and peer reviews to ensure compliance with best practices.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong knowledge of mechanism design and integration, with consideration of tolerances. Understanding of vehicle engineering and integration for reliable design. Proficiency in structural design, sheet metal fabrication, welding processes, and LEAN principles. Knowledge of fuel, exhaust, cooling, braking systems, and industry standards. Experience with closures and suspensions. Familiarity with quality and validation tools (FEA, DFA/M, DOE, DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, 8D problem-solving). Detail-oriented, self-starter, organized, and able to meet project deadlines. Strong communication skills (written & verbal). Prototype fabrication and welding knowledge preferred. Tools: Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, Epicor (ERP), MS Office, Outlook.
