Interconnection / Power Systems Electrical Engineer $120,000.00/yr - $160,000.00/yr

A rapidly growing energy technology company specializing in advanced battery storage solutions is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Interconnection / Power Systems Electrical Engineer. This role focuses on supporting the development of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, ranging from 2MW to multi-Gigawatt capacities, including those serving high-demand computing infrastructure.

As the Interconnection lead, you will interface with customers and utility representatives to facilitate the interconnection process. You’ll serve as the in-house subject matter expert, conducting power system studies, developing models, and managing external consultants when needed. The ideal candidate is experienced in utility-scale interconnection and substation design, and comfortable collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct steady-state, dynamic stability, and short-circuit analyses using tools such as PSSE/E and ETAP

Develop PSS/E and PSCAD models for utility-scale BESS projects supporting large computing loads

Provide technical guidance on interconnection requirements, risk identification, and mitigation strategies

Prepare and submit interconnection applications to utilities and Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as ERCOT, SPP, MISO

Review third-party applications and models for completeness and accuracy; lead technical negotiations as needed

Summarize study results for clients and internal teams

Design high-voltage (115kV, 230kV, 345kV) substation one-line diagrams using AutoCAD

Create HV and MV layouts for hybrid energy projects (BESS, wind, solar, gas)

Use transmission mapping tools to identify Points of Interconnection (POIs) and assess available transfer capacity

Review site layouts using GIS tools to optimize substation placement and transmission line routing

Stay informed on regulatory updates and industry trends to apply best practices

Ensure compliance with relevant safety codes and standards (IEEE, NERC, FERC)

Manage multiple projects and coordinate with clients and project managers to meet deliverables

Perform additional duties as assigned
