Position Convene
is looking for a skilled L1 Lighting Engineer to join our expanding production team in New York City. This position offers part-time to full-time hours on a scheduled shift basis. The L1 Lighting Engineer is responsible for managing and operating all aspects of lighting production to ensure we deliver an excellent meeting, conference, and workday experience to our clients. This includes setting up, configuring, and operating lighting systems, as well as ensuring high-quality lighting experiences for our guests. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in lighting engineering, a keen eye for lighting, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do
Lighting Setup and Operation:
Set up, test, and operate lighting equipment for live events, including stationary and moving fixtures, lighting consoles, and additional lighting elements as required on a per-event basis.
Lighting Quality Management:
Ensure optimal lighting quality during events by adjusting lighting levels, cue programming, and other parameters as needed.
Troubleshooting:
Quickly identify and resolve lighting issues during events to minimize disruptions, including troubleshooting DMX addressing.
Collaboration:
Work closely with event coordinators, production teams, and other staff to understand lighting requirements and deliver exceptional lighting experiences.
Equipment Maintenance:
Regularly inspect and maintain lighting equipment to ensure it is in good working condition. Perform routine checks and repairs as needed.
Technical Support:
Provide technical support and guidance to other team members and clients regarding lighting equipment and setups.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of lighting setups, configurations, tables, documents, and equipment inventory.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and guests.
What We Look For
Minimum of 5 years of experience as an L1 Lighting Engineer or similar role in a hospitality or events setting.
Proficiency in operating lighting equipment, including lighting consoles, stationary and moving elements, wireless DMX devices, and DMX network management. Familiarity with lighting editing software is a plus.
Excellent attention to detail with a strong eye for lighting quality and precision.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly resolve technical issues.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with team members and clients.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.
A degree or certification in lighting operation, lighting design, or a related field is preferred.
Compensation Hourly Rate: $55.00/hour with a guaranteed minimum of 10 hours per day. This reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
