This posting is part of a pool for future vacancies in the Research Engineer / Scientist classification. Positions will be based on renewable two‑year terms and are located in Huntsville, AL. The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering seeks candidates capable of conducting research in various engineering disciplines to design, develop, and evaluate technology and apply engineering theories and principles. Essential Functions
Perform a variety of research and development activities requiring the application of engineering or science‑based practices and principles. Design, operate, maintain, and repair specialized equipment and engineered systems utilizing engineering or science‑based practices and principles. Advise faculty, postdocs, students, and staff with engineering design, modification, prototype and process development, analysis procedures, and other engineering solutions. Perform failure analysis, optimization studies and other investigations. Evaluate findings to develop new concepts, equipment, or processes. Ensure supplies are available and operational for use in projects. May manage local computer systems for laboratory functionality. Develop proposals, budgets, schedules, and progress reports and present results to internal and external stakeholders. Prepare technical reports for long and short‑range planning. Why Work at Auburn?

Bachelor’s Degree in a science‑related field or Engineering, including Aerospace, Biosystems, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Computer Science and Software, Electrical and Computer, Industrial and Systems, Mechanical and Materials, at the time of employment begins. Level I – requires no experience; Level II – 2 years of experience; Level III – 4 years of experience; Level IV – 6 years of experience; Level V – 8 years of experience; Level VI – 10 years of experience. Experience in engineering and research practices and principles in microelectronics, automotive electronics, highway research, robotics and autonomous systems, metallurgy and materials, asphalt technology, pulp and paper, transportation, energy technology, detection and food safety, cyber‑security and information technology, or experience in various fields of science that could include mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, computer science, etc. Advanced degrees may be considered in lieu of experience. Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Some positions may require licensure as a professional engineer. Desired Qualifications
