Job Description
In this position, engine mapping is the foundation of engine calibration and feeds the PT Dyno and Commodity Calibration processes. The role of a mapping engineer is to develop the calibration values required for fundamental engine operation. This includes characterization or modeling of engine attributes and optimization of engine actuator setpoints. A mapping engineer is responsible for collecting and analyzing data run on an engine-only dynamometer under steady state conditions and developing calibrations from this empirical data. This includes:
Camshaft schedule optimization
Aircharge/Inferred MAP calibration
Torque model calibration
Torque ratio
MBT spark
Indicated and friction torque models
Optimized DI fuel parameter settings
EGR flow model calibration and EGR schedule optimization
Aircharge, Torque and Spark modifiers
Flex Fuel calibrations
DFSO exit MBT offset calibration
Responsibilities
What you'll do…
Facilitation of the mapping kick-off process to ensure "OK to MAP"
Mapping engine test plan development
Engine test room lineup and interfacing with the test cell technicians and dyno test engineers
Data monitoring and quality assurance
Use of mapping tools to analyze mapping data to develop mapping calibration deliverables
Validation of calibrations on dyno and correlation to vehicle level validation testing
Interfacing with calibration customers and supporting Mapping PAT meeting to ensure mapping deliverables support the calibration team
Other Information: Engine mapping provides valuable experience in base gasoline engine operation and Ford control strategy fundamentals. Minimal travel required.
Qualifications
You'll have…
BS in mechanical/automotive/electrical/aerospace engineering or an equivalent degree
Even better, you may have...
Working knowledge of SI engines.
2+ years of experience in engine design, engine, testing, calibration, and engineering.
Previous powertrain calibration and/or control strategy experience.
Familiarity with engine development testing and instrumentation.
Data analysis experience and proficiency with tools such as Matlab, Excel and Concerto
