Preconstruction Engineer

Instill safety as a top priority Work in a collaborative environment Analyze plans, specifications, and other related engineering documents Prepare quantity take-offs with computer-aided tools; verify site conditions; review construction methods and equipment utilization Ensure timely, thorough, and accurate takeoffs Assist in preparing work plans and proposal documents Assist in preparing bid documents and developing construction schedules Build relationships and communicate with owners, design partners, internal partners, and project stakeholders Manage document control including submittals, RFIs, and contract documents Review preliminary design documents and manage constructability comments and clarifications Create and manage 3D models for the preconstruction team Understand and assist with project layout and survey Attend and/or lead meetings Other duties may be assigned Experience, Education & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management 1+ years’ experience in highway heavy construction Competence in software applications used for project control and administration (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Bluebeam) Strong knowledge of surveying fundamentals; familiarity with Trimble civil construction equipment and software (Trimble Business Center, Trimble Siteworks, Earthworks, GCS900, WorksManager, AGTEK, Civil 3D) Strong written and verbal communication skills Attention to detail with ability to recognize discrepancies Positive attitude and self-motivation Time management, organization, and prioritization skills Valid Driver’s License Working Conditions
Location – Southeast Region Travel required Construction site environment with physical requirements (standing, walking, crawling, bending, reaching, climbing); exposure to high noise levels Construction site office environment with extensive desk work; some standing, bending, stooping; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally Ames Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
