Overview

Equipment Operator, Senior – DeKalb County Government. Positions available in multiple departments. Grade: 10. Salary Range: $18.59 - $29.93/hour depending on experience. FLSA: Non-Exempt. Responsibilities

Operate various equipment and vehicles to complete tasks related to the maintenance, upkeep, installation, and construction of County grounds, property, utilities, right-of-ways, and other infrastructure for departmental operations. Drive vehicles on public roads, work sites, rights-of-way, parks, public works facilities, and other County property; maneuver around traffic, parked cars, equipment, utilities, and obstacles; follow traffic laws and safety guidelines; monitor the work area to ensure safety of the operator, coworkers, the equipment, and the public. Drive roll-off container trucks to haul materials to and from work sites; position the vehicle to align containers; connect containers and operate winch; ensure proper load distribution; secure doors and fasteners to prevent spillage; dump material at the appropriate location. Operate bobcat, backhoe-mounted loader, and similar equipment to load and move gravel, dirt, sand, and other materials; use equipment to clear land or debris. Operate backhoe for digging, trenching, and clearing for maintenance and utility projects; control placement and approach to minimize damage to property and to avoid utility lines. Operate tractors with articulated boom mowing system to mow right-of-ways, parks, and other County property; scout paths, remove obstacles, and adjust boom settings for proper operation. Drive knuckle-boom trucks to collect trash and debris; load and transport to landfills; secure loads and dump at appropriate locations. Operate front loader vehicles for solid waste collection and disposal; may involve special collections items. Fuel and perform routine maintenance on equipment in the field; perform minor repairs such as oil changes, refueling, lubricant replenishment, and component replacements as needed. Inspect and prepare equipment for safe operation prior to starting work; perform light maintenance and clean vehicles after use; secure vehicle after completion. Transports, loads, and unloads materials and equipment; monitor work environment and traffic conditions to ensure crew and public safety; use safety equipment and protective gear. Complete and process various forms and documentation (work orders, time cards, maintenance reports, spray records, maps, etc.); coordinate with supervisor and other departments as needed. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred; two years of experience operating heavy trucks and/or off-road construction equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Specific License or Certification Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License; some assignments may require Georgia Class A CDL and/or special endorsements. Safety Information
