About the Role
The Fleet Maintenance Manager will provide leadership and direction to the engineering staff, operating to the highest standards, in achieving vessel on-time arrival. This includes achieving efficient and thorough execution of fleet maintenance and repairs, strict adherence to company safety policies, full compliance with regulatory and class rules, effective cost control, and effective personnel management.

USCG Licensed Chief Engineer, Unlimited Motor
Qualified in reading engineering and ship structural drawings
Project Management competency
Writing and critical thinking skills
Excel and pivot table experience
MS Office Suite skills with PowerPoint and Outlook and SharePoint skills
Good presentation skills before large and small groups
And these qualifications
Licensed US Coast Guard Chief Engineer, Unlimited Motor with seagoing experience in senior officer positions
Containership Technical manager experience
Specific knowledge, training, and experience in all aspects of marine maintenance and repair; understanding of planned maintenance routines; operation of slow and medium-speed diesel engines; operation of diesel power plant auxiliaries; operation of high-pressure boilers, steam turbines, steam plant auxiliaries; and operation of reefer, diesel load management systems, electrical, and automated systems
May be required to commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals and/or deadlines, including work on the weekends and holidays to meet deadlines
Extra credit if you have
State or Federal Maritime Academy graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred
Licensed US Coast Guard engine license, Steam & Diesel with sailing experience under this license. First Assistant or Chief Engineer license preferred
Ability to travel as required
Operational and Financial responsibilities
Operational Management: Supervise a team of Port Engineers; work within shipboard and shoreside collective bargaining agreements; resolve engineering Nonconformity Reports (NCR); complete Annual Performance Reviews for assigned Chief Engineers; participate in the Matson Safety Committee and the Engine Officer Selection Committee
Financial Management: Prepare and report on all financial and accounting elements including annual budget preparation and implementation; manage vendor contracts; submit properly drafted Capital Expense Requests (CER) for vessel modifications and upgrades
Vessel Maintenance and Compliance: Collect and prepare dry dock specifications in preparation for regulatory dry dockings; develop, refine, and implement policy and procedures for the company’s Safety Management System (SMS); demonstrate good environmental stewardship in all aspects of vessel operations
Reporting and Communication: Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports on activities

Climb stairs and shipboard ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
The annual salary range for this position in California and Washington is $122,200 - $177,160. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations. Remote candidates will be considered.
