Position Summary The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting and customer communication activities daily, including labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower. People management includes hiring, training, scheduling, performance appraisal and problem resolution. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager the supervisor ensures the receiving, warehousing and shipping of products in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities, plan and assure continuous improvement.
Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues affecting operations.
Develop systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment and products in a safe and profitable manner in accordance with company policies and guidelines.
Implement and report on ongoing cost savings measures; provide ideas for more efficient operations.
Meet all client specified KPI’s and comply with quality system requirements.
Apply sound communication and motivational techniques; create programs to fairly supervise, counsel and (where needed) discipline team members.
Provide direction and support to Human Resources; assist in hiring, training and professional development programs.
Has overall training and evaluation responsibilities of warehouse staff.
Plan the daily work schedule by reviewing existing work orders, arrival notices and instructions from customers.
Review pending jobs or trends, plan for reorganization of warehouse space, and needed changes in level of supplies, equipment or staffing.
Train new staff in assigned duties; assess progress of trainees and add additional duties as appropriate.
Keep informed of quantity and quality of jobs being performed throughout the day, providing guidance and advice as necessary.
Assign supervisory duties to experienced team members acting as leads for lower‑level warehouse staff.
Hold regular meetings with warehouse staff to assess the group’s overall status; discuss ideas for improvement.
Assist in the physical operations as needed; deliver results by leveraging the skills of the right people at the right time.
Maintain high motivation in team members to provide the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
Support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); train team members with adherence to SOPs (corporate and client).
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
3 years’ experience working in a logistics/distribution environment.
1 year experience in a supervisory role.
Preferred: Prior MHE certification / knowledge of basic MHE operation.
Forklift training program completion.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point); RF scanners; WMS functions.
English (reading, writing, verbal); business communication.
Basic to intermediate mathematical skills for verifying quantities of product, counting inventory or performing duties associated with handling, storing and distributing client products.
Physical Demands
Occasionally: Bending; Frequently: Walking and Standing; Constantly: Sitting.
Ability to lift 11–20 pounds; reach above shoulder, squat or kneel.
