Evening Program Assistant at Cascade Women’s Program

– Compass Housing Alliance Position: Evening Program Assistant at Cascade Women’s Program. This is a unionized role represented by Local 8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU). Location: South Lake Union Neighborhood (Seattle, WA). Schedule: Monday–Friday 4pm–12am; monthly staff meetings on the 3rd Thursday. Meal period: Paid (30 minutes). Salary: $24.50 per hour (Step 1; Step 2 increase of 2.5% after 12 consecutive months of employment). About the program: Since 1999, Cascade Women’s Program has provided a safe place to live and access to vital resources for female-identifying individuals experiencing homelessness in Seattle, offering 32 units of permanent supportive housing with case management and support from staff. About the organization: Compass Housing Alliance develops and provides essential services, shelter, and affordable housing to help the community secure safe housing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide trauma-informed monitoring of activity in and around the building to ensure safety, security, and comfort of guests/residents/participants and staff. Mediates conflicts with de-escalation and crisis intervention; models problem solving and refers to appropriate services as needed. Assist in support of program activities, including meal services, helping guests/residents/participants with tasks such as laundry access or instruction, group activities, or other similar activities. Engage guests/residents/participants to assess needs and provide immediate information and referrals. Respond to guests/residents/participants issues as directed by program management and/or property management. Report guest/resident/participant and building needs to management and ensure supplies/equipment are in stock. Monitor security cameras, conduct periodic security rounds, check lights, doors, and windows, and investigate noise and other complaints. Log actions, incidents, rule enforcements, and report unusual or sensitive matters to the Program Coordinator and/or Manager. Control after-hours front door/access and enforce rules and restrictions. Follow building and staff safety and emergency procedures per program and agency policies. Perform light janitorial duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Maintain confidentiality and respect for participants from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of de-escalation, crisis intervention, and stabilization techniques. Knowledge of local resources for people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Ability to manage difficult interpersonal situations and know when to seek support. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions and crisis situations. Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries; follow agency policies for safety and security. Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to relate to people from all backgrounds. Promote teamwork and collaborate effectively; work independently when needed. Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical problems and solutions. Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technologies (Microsoft products, general office equipment).

Education and Experience

At least 1 year of experience in a social/human service setting (preferred). Awareness or training in belonging, compassion, and meeting people where they are (preferred). Familiarity with housing instability, mental health, substance use, sexual assault, and/or domestic violence (preferred). Experience in multilingual environments (preferred). Current WA State Food Handler’s Permit (preferred; sponsorship within 1 month of hire if not current). Degree in human/social services or related field is a complement to experience (preferred).

Physical Demands

Regularly able to talk and listen; stand, walk, and use hands; reach with arms and hands; lift/carry up to 20 pounds. Work environment includes long periods at a computer, stairs, and regular interaction with a diverse client base in a social services setting. Ability to handle mental tasks such as attention to detail, planning, documentation, and meetings. Work Environment

Onsite work required; no remote option. Compass programs operate in a human services environment in the Greater Seattle area; the client community includes individuals with complex needs. Security practices include camera surveillance in public areas; private surveillance within units may be used by guests/residents.
