Responsibilities

Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and external partners, modeling professionalism, accountability, and cultural awareness.

Deliver patient- and family-centered care, incorporating teaching, coaching, and guidance throughout the care experience. Serve as a preceptor and support the development of students and new staff.

Apply the nursing process using Relationship-Based Care principles to create a healing environment, develop individualized care plans, and address clinical, social, and emotional needs. Communicate effectively across the care team to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice, and shared governance to enhance patient outcomes, satisfaction, and the professional practice environment.

Demonstrate accountability for ongoing professional development, adapt to change, and actively contribute to a positive, flexible, and collaborative workplace culture.

Provide age-appropriate care and demonstrate knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.

Physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients. Ability to work in a complex, fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Qualifications / Preferred Experience

2 years of RN experience preferred.

Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and ability to lead application of the nursing process.

Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with patients, families, and colleagues across departments.

Physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)

Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
