Duties and Summary The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in providing clinical care to select patients under the supervision of a professional nurse or licensed medical practitioner and provides clerical office assistance.
Essential Functions
Prepare exam and treatment rooms, supplies and instruments.
Prepare patients for physician visits and assist as directed.
Take and record patients' vital signs in the medical chart.
Understand the function and care of special equipment.
Perform EKG, PFT, Audiometry, Titmus Test as indicated after evaluation checklist completion.
Perform UDS, BAT, Phlebotomy, and other lab testing as indicated after evaluation checklist completion.
Maintain records by completing patient records as directed; file records and reports.
Assist with collections/billing procedures as needed.
Use computer software to maintain office systems.
Identify and respond to confidentiality issues.
Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify care to meet those needs (age, culture, language, impairments, etc.).
Communicate with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at an appropriate level.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Skills, Education & Certifications
Skills:
Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; knowledge of computerized processes and data entry procedures.
Education: Required: High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Certifications & Licensure:
One of the following CMA or RMA certifications:
CMA-NHA (National Healthcareer Association)
CMA-AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants)
RMA-AMT (American Medical Technologists)
RMA-NAHP (National Association for Health Professionals)
AMCA (American Medical Certification Association)
NCMA (National Certification Medical Association)
