Base pay range Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives.

Responsibilities

Patient Experience: Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience.

Customer service: Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits that show care and Walgreens service traits.

Patient engagement: Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services) to promote the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal.

Event participation: Participates in events reflecting the communities served as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager.

Operations: Counsels patients on usage of medicine, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost-effective medicines, and OTC products. Refers to medical providers as needed to ensure correct use and satisfaction.

Pharmacist tasks: Compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.

Dispensing: Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications in accordance with regulations.

Compliance and workflow: Ensures the pharmacy operates per regulations, company policies and standards; oversees staff scheduling, roles, coordinating activities, and seeking team input; responsible for opening/closing and shift changes.

Good Faith Dispensing: Ensures use of Good Faith Dispensing elements per state/federal law when filling prescriptions.

Business development: Collaborates with Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.

Technology & support: Maintains IT knowledge of pharmacy systems; supports staff and patients with IT; seeks opportunities to improve productivity.

Insurance: Ensures claims are processed accurately; resolves issues with insurers and providers; participates in third-party audits as needed.

Clinical follow-up: Follows up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; suggests alternatives and answers questions.

Clinical & wellness services: Performs immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management, and other healthcare services.

Centralized support: Partners with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; conducts virtual product reviews per company procedures when in virtual environments.

Facilities management: Maintains the pharmacy department including repairs, cleaning, equipment, and layout changes for efficiency and presentation.

Recordkeeping: Prepares and submits records and reports as required by state/federal laws.

People & Performance Management: Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline/termination, and legal compliance; sets expectations and goals; recognizes improvements; manages performance; develops staff; conducts formal reviews.

Talent development: Identifies high-potential team members and plans career progression with Store Manager; addresses employee relations concerns; maintains morale.

Training & Personal Development: Maintains licensing/credentials; pursues ongoing knowledge in pharmacy and healthcare; completes required education credits and training; seeks professional development with mentors.

Communications: Supports Store Manager by sharing relevant corporate health and wellness information with pharmacy staff.

Business Performance & Planning: Analyzes performance data (pharmacy financials, customer service, inventory); manages asset protection and inventory; builds community relationships; supports growth opportunities and health awareness.

Qualifications

BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution.

Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.

Certified Immunizer or must become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.

At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, legal compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing.

Experience dispensing prescriptions with strong knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws.

For internal candidates: average leadership rating of at least 3.0 on last performance review with no disciplinary actions in the last 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience in pharmacy staff management.

At least 6 months of pharmacy experience with Walgreens.

Internal candidates: average leadership rating of 3.7 or above on last performance review.
