Job Summary
Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow, improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Oversees pharmacy staff performance and engagement and supports professional development through training, coaching, and formal performance management initiatives. Responsibilities
Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits. Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services; promotes the shift of Walgreens pharmacy from transactional to interpersonal through awareness of services such as patient consultation, medication management, and preventive health services. Participates in events reflecting the communities served as requested by leadership. Counsels patients on medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost considerations, and over-the-counter products; refers to medical providers as needed. Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications in accordance with regulations and policies; establishes efficient workflow and staffing coordination. Ensures compliance with Good Faith Dispensing policies and state/federal laws when filling prescriptions. Collaborates with Store Manager to define and develop strategic business opportunities. Maintains knowledge of pharmacy systems (workflow, billing, documentation, inventory, POS) and supports staff and patients with IT needs; identifies productivity improvements. Ensures accurate processing of insurance claims and resolves issues with payers and providers; participates in third-party audits as needed. Follows up with providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; discusses alternatives when appropriate. Performs clinical and wellness services (e.g., immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management).
Manages maintenance, housekeeping, and improvement of the pharmacy department to ensure a functional and presentable operation. Prepares and submits records and reports required by law to run the pharmacy business. Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing. Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws. Competency rating on leadership behaviors and no major disciplinary actions in the last 12 months (internal candidates). About Walgreens
