Georgia-Pacific is seeking a motivated and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to lead our team of Laboratory Technicians at our Brunswick cellulose mill. This role combines hands-on laboratory testing with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring environmental and process labs are conducted accurately, safely, and on schedule.

The Lab Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing the laboratory team to ensure accurate and timely testing of raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental samples. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with supervisory duties to maintain product quality, optimize process performance, and ensure environmental regulatory compliance.

You will perform laboratory testing independently, applying various chemicals and equipment, while also managing team schedules, training, and workflow. Attention to detail, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of lab procedures are essential for success in this role.

Our Team

The Brunswick Cellulose Mill is the largest single-line fluff pulp mill in North America and employs over 600 team members. It is strategically located on the Georgia coast in Brunswick, GA, enabling it to efficiently serve customers around the globe.

What You Will Do

Supervise and mentor laboratory technicians, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback to develop a high-performing team.

Lead and manage Environmental Compliance and ISO 9000 compliance laboratory and associated systems.

Prepare and distribute environmental test results and analysis to site leadership.

Execute Leader Standard Work, including: approving timesheets, scheduling weekend coverage, verifying analytical accuracy, validating technician data, validating training records, conducting daily team meetings, assigning responsibilities, preparing samples for external analysis, maintaining inventory and housekeeping, and obtaining approvals for new chemicals.

Coordinate with external labs to verify compliance with regulatory standards.

Collaborate with Regional Wastewater Engineers, Operations Engineers, and external service providers to maintain wastewater compliance.

Oversee laboratory equipment, ensuring all calibrations are current and supporting mill operations by troubleshooting and resolving analytical equipment issues.

Maintain all databases and filing systems, ensuring timely and accurate report submissions.

Ensure compliance with RIM and GI standards within the lab and among direct reports.

Must be able to carry loads up to 50 pounds, navigate stairs and ladders, and operate valves.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in applied science

Minimum 3 years’ industrial experience in environmental compliance, regulatory testing, or quality assurance

Experience in production, QA testing, and failure analysis environments

What Will Put You Ahead

Green Belt certified – Lean Six Sigma methodology

Excellent interpersonal and team leadership skills

Strong knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements

State Certified Wastewater Laboratory license, or equivalent certifications

Experience with pulp and paper quality testing and procedures

Drinking Water Operator or Wastewater Operator certifications from the State of Georgia, or willingness to obtain promptly
