Overview

R&D Associate Engineer at ABB. This role reports to the Manager R&D Engineering 2 and is part of ABB’s Process Automation business area, which enables customers to operate large, complex industrial infrastructures with automation, electrification and digital solutions. You will work with the R&D Project Manager and the R&D team to deliver technical solutions that meet defined requirements, develop proof-of-concepts, estimate effort and schedules, execute development tasks, and document all activities. Key Responsibilities

Technical contribution: Collaborate with the R&D Project Manager and team to research technical solutions, perform proof-of-concepts, recommend specific solutions, provide effort estimates and schedules, execute development work, and fully document all activities. Embedded Firmware: Add firmware capabilities to communication, control, and IO modules; port firmware to new hardware platforms; troubleshoot and resolve firmware bugs; validate functionality by analysis and testing. Embedded Hardware: Work with hardware engineers to analyze, design, implement, debug and test analog and digital circuits for high-reliability microprocessor-based measurement, communication and controller/CPU products used in real-time distributed control systems. Manufacturing Support: Ensure products are manufacturable; assist Industrial Engineering to resolve manufacturing issues; support development and maintenance of manufacturing test equipment and procedures. Processes and tools: Utilize the PCP Agile development process to plan and execute projects with Azure DevOps and standard development tools. Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (Master’s preferred). Minimum of 4 years of related experience, depending on degree. Understanding of embedded real-time platforms; experience developing and debugging real-time applications in embedded environments. Experience with FPGA development tools and VHDL; knowledge of simulation tools. Experience with C and C++ and software debugging environments. Knowledge of ABB Harmony and Symphony Plus Control Systems and their configuration is an added advantage. Up to 5% travel. What’s In It For You
