Job Summary This role is responsible for managing a Transmission Line Engineering (TLE) team's activities associated with expansion and upgrading of AEP transmission line facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate the team’s activities with Project Management to ensure engineering design, route selection, construction drawings, specifications, and bill of materials are completed with corporate objectives and industry, governmental, and regulatory standards.
Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with TLE standards or best practices, technically and economically appropriate, and consider employee and public safety, system reliability, ease of operation, and timely project completion within approved schedules and budgets.
Work with the team to provide solutions to requested transmission line and civil engineering questions from Project Management, Transmission Services, and other AEP organizations.
Provide engineering support for operation and maintenance of system transmission lines.
Keep owner’s records and provide required reports for regulatory and compliance requirements.
Essential Job Duties
Plan, organize, supervise, and manage the engineering and design of system transmission line facilities.
Use engineering consultants as required to accomplish work, managing external requirements of customers and joint ventures.
Provide technical consultation and support consistent with internal expertise and organizational responsibilities.
Interact and communicate with Right of Way groups, Project Management, Construction management, Station Projects, and Operating Company staff.
Represent AEP at meetings with the public and governmental entities related to existing facilities and new transmission improvements.
Support the annual development of the capital forecast for AEP transmission lines in alignment with corporate strategy.
Coordinate needs and support transmission and distribution planning groups and other engineering, operations, construction, and maintenance groups.
Maintain awareness of current industry practices and participate in external committees and groups.
Ensure all team members have the software, tools, support, etc., needed for project completion per standards and corporate objectives.
Define performance expectations, review and reward job performance, administer effective job performance review and merit salary programs, and develop employee skills.
Match resources to assignments to meet strategic needs and support team development and training.
Qualifications
Proven leadership skills and experience in managing engineering teams.
Strong understanding of transmission line engineering and design processes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET college or university.
Minimum 8 years of electric utility engineering experience with 3 years in T-Line.
Required License(s)/Certification(s)
Professional Engineer registration in any state of the U.S. is required.*

Must be highly skilled in technology and computers.
Must have effective oral and written communication skills including strong presentation skills.
Physical demand level is Sedentary.
Site visits / observations required.
VP or above may waive the PE requirement at their discretion.
Compensation Data Compensation Grade: SP20-010 Compensation Range: $132,562.00-172,331.00 USD Physical Demand Level: Sedentary work with limited force and occasional lifting.
