HVAC/R Mechanical Engineer - Convenience Stores
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with expertise in HVAC‑R, boiler systems, and high‑end commercial kitchen equipment to support the design, operation, and optimization of mechanical systems across convenience store locations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of energy efficiency, system reliability, and regulatory compliance in fast‑paced, small‑format retail environments with foodservice operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, evaluate, and optimize HVAC‑R, boiler, and kitchen equipment systems for convenience stores
Conduct load calculations, system sizing, and energy modeling to ensure optimal performance
Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical and kitchen systems across multiple store locations
Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure system integration and code compliance
Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in HVAC, refrigeration, heating, and kitchen equipment (e.g., vent hoods)
Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs and standard operating procedures
Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, NFPA, OSHA, NSF, and local building and health codes
Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
PE license (Professional Engineer) or ability to obtain within 12 months
5+ years of experience in HVAC‑R, boiler systems, and commercial kitchen equipment
Proven experience with convenience stores, quick‑service restaurants, or small‑format food retail
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP)
Strong knowledge of building automation systems (BAS/BMS) and controls
Familiarity with walk‑in coolers, freezers, hood ventilation systems, grease management, and kitchen exhaust systems
Excellent communication and project management skills
Preferred Skills:
Experience with foodservice‑grade kitchen equipment and refrigeration systems
Knowledge of refrigerant management and EPA Section 608 certification
Familiarity with CMMS platforms
LEED AP or similar sustainability credential is a plus
