Position Summary: The Test Design Engineer is responsible for aiding in the concept, design, and detailing of assembly tooling and fixturing, test hardware, and custom test loop design. They perform duties using Computer aided Desing (CAD) software including the modeling of parts and assemblies, and create drawings with appropriate dimensioning and tolerances, material properties, manufacturing processes, and tool design. Key Results

Areas: 1. Lead the development of custom test equipment used for product verification. Work with test engineers to generate P&IDs for test systems used to verify customer requirements. Generate, facilitate review, and release models and drawings for test systems designed to P&IDs. Release drawing packages with detailed drawings which allow for manufacturing of custom parts utilizing appropriate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) as applicable. Research and identify special test or assembly hardware needed for test equipment Estimate rough order of magnitude costs for test systems 2. Develop visual assembly procedures for internal product to ensure repeatability of assembly processes. Work with test engineers to develop visual procedures for assembly utilizing CAD to ensure high repeatability of assembly processes. Determine tooling needs and generate custom tooling for assembly. Incorporate technician feedback before/after assembly operations to improve procedures and tooling. Facilitate review and release procedures with cross functional by in. 3. Continuously improve procedures, processes and methods to ensure quality with zero defects and excursions. Identify and validate lessons learned with Project Engineering group to drive continuous improvement. Ensure that all lessons learned are incorporated into work instructions to ensure that the quality of the product and BN processes continually improve. Identify areas for improvement in process and product relating to safety, quality, delivery and cost then elevate them to the Assembly & Testing Manager. Provide insight to facilitate internal test capability expansion and capital improvement Assist on continuous improvement teams to help drive department improvements Requirements

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required. Education and Training Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience working in high aptitude manufacturing environment. Experience: Five years related experience in a complex manufacturing environment Experience leading test loop design efforts P&ID creation Other: Must be willing to work overtime as required Travel up to 10% of working time. Desired Job Qualification: Experience with recognized quality systems (ISO, AS, QS, TS). Compensation and Benefits : The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $110,000. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances. Barber Nichols anticipates the application window closing approximately 30 days from the date the notice was posted.
