This role is based in the Greater Houston Area (TX) and will require 90% travel to the Bay Area (CA) to support early builds and validation for the next 6–12 months.
Overview A Manufacturing Equipment Engineer in the Production Engineering team will be part of operating, sustaining, and optimizing advanced manufacturing equipment and leading-edge technologies. The candidate should have a high aptitude for learning and adapting quickly in a high-paced environment, with a strong background in at least one of the following disciplines: PLC programming (Siemens), 6-axis robotics, Python scripting, laser welding, mechanical design & analysis, vision systems, and/or electrical testing. The role requires strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in automated equipment and a willingness to develop skills outside of the primary area of expertise.
What You’ll Do
Drive development, installation, qualification, and ramp-up of high-speed, high-precision manufacturing equipment, including laser welding systems
Troubleshoot issues, implement countermeasures, and drive continuous improvement projects to reduce downtime and inefficiency
Program, teach, and troubleshoot industrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc) for applications such as material handling and dispensing
Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate failure modes; knowledge of electrical, mechanical, industrial networks, and controls systems
Own and present metrics at station and line levels; plan and implement continuous improvement to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
Lead equipment upgrades, retrofits, and repairs with focus on design intent, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and process capability
Create, propose, implement, and improve standard operating procedures for equipment and stations within ownership
Support 24/7 operation
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering, or equivalent experience
Experience programming, troubleshooting, and integrating PLC platforms with ladder logic and structured text
Experience commissioning and optimizing equipment; demonstrated OEE improvement
Robotics maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and programming (preferred)
5+ years in an automated, high-volume manufacturing facility
Experience with safety control devices and safety logic (preferred)
Strong problem-solving skills, fast learner, and ability to apply structured problem-solving methods (e.g., DMAIC, Ishikawa, 5 Why, 8D)
Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics; experience developing and improving HMIs; Fanuc Robotics/Ignition experience (preferred)
Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
