Sign-On Bonus Eligible
Process and screen cytological specimens from various body sites. Work in close relationship with Pathologists in review and interpretation of the specimens. Recognize abnormal and normal cells and classify findings.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited cytotechnologist program
Licensed by the state of West Virginia as a cytotechnologist within 6 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous laboratory experience
Certifications
Certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent agency as a Cytotechnologist.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Perform and analyze diagnostic procedures according to SOP to produce accurate, reproducible results.
Assist Physicians with FNA specimen adequacy during patient procedures.
Prepare reagents and solutions accurately to complete testing requests.
Restock supplies and assist colleagues as needed.
Prepare and accession patient specimens, ensuring proper collection and labeling.
Perform quality assurance and control procedures regularly.
Troubleshoot issues and document steps taken.
Participate in proficiency testing and reporting.
Verify abnormal results and notify relevant personnel per SOP.
Engage in educational activities and training of new staff.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and sit for long periods.
Good visual acuity, including color differentiation.
Manual dexterity for instrument operation.
Working Environment
Noisy environment, potential exposure to odors, viruses, and infections.
Operate instrumentation while wearing protective gear.
Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with computers and laboratory equipment.
Effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
