Salary Level III $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR-20, Step D to I) Level IV $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I) Level V $6,043 to $7,351 per month (SR-24, Step D to I) Duties Summary Level III: Assists a higher level Public Health Educator in conducting informational and educational programs concerning various aspects of a public health program; or, participates in developing, organizing and conducting part of the informational and educational aspects of a public health program or of a particular public health project under the close supervision of a higher level Public Health Educator; and performs other duties as required. Level IV: Plans, develops, organizes, and conducts informational and educational programs concerning various aspects of public health; and performs other duties as required. Level V: Plans, develops, organizes, and conducts informational and educational programs concerning various aspects of public health; participates in overall program development and evaluation; assists in the recruitment, training, and supervision of lower-level Public Health Educators and others; and performs other duties as required. Minimum Qualification Requirements BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. Excess work experience as described under the Specialized Experience, below, or any other responsible administrative, professional, or analytical work experience that provided knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree with the above coursework, may be substituted on a year-foryear basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level, and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities. Specialized Experience Requirement Level III: Two (2) years of experience with knowledge of basic principles, practices, materials, and techniques of public health and community health education; principles of public relations; community health problems; educational psychology and teaching methods; public-speaking methods; basic methods and techniques of disseminating health educational information to the public. Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain good working relationships with public and private agencies and individuals; learn to organize and present educational programs; assist in planning, organizing and implementing an educational program in public health; assist in planning, developing and conducting training programs for personnel in health and other agencies; cooperate with educational, medical, dental, nursing and other personnel in developing health education programs; write reports and articles and deliver speeches to promote interest in health programs and activities; disseminate information in the field of public health. Level IV: Three (3) years of experience with knowledge and abilities required at the next lower level, including thorough knowledge of principles, practices, materials, and techniques of public health education; community organizations; modern developments and literature in the field of health education; community health problems; methods and techniques of disseminating health education information to the public. Ability to plan, organize and conduct educational programs in public health; organize and direct the activities of committees and organizations for the development and promotion of community public health educational programs; conduct studies and analyze health education problems; interpret public health philosophy and the purpose of health education programs to civic leaders and others; aid in planning, developing and conducting training programs for personnel in health and other agencies. Level V: Four (4) years of professional experience in community health education, which involved educating the public in the prevention of disease and other unhealthy conditions or working as a consultant to other professionally trained individuals, such as physicians, nurses, social workers, and teachers. Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and ability to apply the principles and practices of supervisory techniques and methods, and to effectively supervise others is required. Supervisory aptitude is demonstrated through experience, training, or appraisals. License:

Substitution Of Education For Experience A master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two (2) years of the specialized experience. A doctoral degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience. Selective Certification:

Specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. For such positions, selective certification requirements may be established and certification may be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position.
