SUMMER DAY CAMP SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring and faith. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. SUMMER DAY CAMP ENRICHMENT SPECIALIST:
Enrichment specialists will provide specialized instruction in a specialty field. Instructors must be comfortable (or willing to learn) lesson planning and teaching one hour instructional sessions to students ages 5-12 (grouped by age). Seeking specialists in all fields: Including, but not limited to: Archery, Art (Painting, drawing, sculpting, construction), Aquatics (Must be lifeguard certified or willing to obtain certification before June), Activities (Indoor and Outdoor Games), Ceremonies (Plan daily opening and closing ceremony songs, skits, stunts, etc), Sports, Legos, Science, and Dance. Enrichment instructors should plan to work 6 hours per day, but could also serve as a camp counselor to increase daily summer hours to 8 per day. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc. At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies) Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, or obtain within 30 days of hire date Previous experience with diverse populations preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May be required to walk, stand, run, kneel, climb and stoop Must be able to sit on the floor and get back up Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking Must be able to lift, pull and push up to 50 pounds Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings OUR CULTURE: Our mission and core values are brought to life by our culture.
