Overview
Substation Senior Civil/Structural Engineer at Leidos Engineering. We provide knowledge and expertise across cutting-edge energy technologies with independent oversight, supporting publicly- and privately-owned utilities, financial institutions, and local governments. We are seeking a Licensed Senior Civil/Structural Engineer with 8+ years of experience in a utility consulting setting performing design engineering and reviews. The candidate should have a strong educational background in design of steel and concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, site design, and foundations. Experience reviewing substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, site design packages, and fire-walls is required. This role involves performing design reviews for bid/construction packages, taking a lead engineer role on client projects, overseeing work, and ensuring quality control on design packages. Site visits to client substation facilities and occasional travel for meetings and industry events are expected. Some front-facing client activities (e.g., lunch and learns, kick-off meetings) are preferred. The position requires compliance with quality control and safe work practices and adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget. The role sits within a senior design team comprised of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians. Responsibilities
Perform design reviews of civil/structural components for substation projects (steel/concrete design, geotechnical, site design, foundations). Lead engineering on client projects, supervise junior staff, and ensure quality control of design packages. Lead site visits to client substations and participate in client meetings and industry events as needed. Support development of bid/construction packages and ensure compliance with scope, schedule, and budget. Engage in front-facing client activities when required (e.g., lunch and learns, kick-off meetings). Qualifications
Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Civil-Structural Engineering – Required Masters of Science (MS) degree in Civil-Structural Engineering – Preferred PE Licensure – Required Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint & MATHCAD – Required Experience with STAAD.Pro, RISA 3D, FAD Tools, SAFE, SAG10, and LPILE – Required Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation – Required Strong analytical and technical writing skills Team player with ability to communicate with clients and staff Willingness to travel up to 25% Work Location
Ideally Walled Lake, MI (hybrid) or Chicago, IL (hybrid), but all qualified candidates located in the U.S. will be considered to work 100% remote. Compensation and Posting Details
Pay Range: $89,700.00 - $162,150.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
