Job Description We are seeking an Entry‑Level Structural Engineer to join our Transportation Department in either our Arlington or Glen Allen, VA office. Successful candidates will contribute creativity and impact across a diverse range of transportation projects. New hires are eligible for AECOM’s Graduate Development Program, which supports assimilation, technical development planning toward licensure, and foundation knowledge for future career success.

This role offers opportunities to work on regionally, nationally, and internationally acclaimed projects while receiving exceptional training and career development.

Position will start in summer 2026.

Job Responsibilities

Design of new bridges

Design for bridge rehabilitation projects

Development of bridge maintenance and repair plans

Perform load ratings for bridges

Design of transit structures

Bridge and tunnel inspection and evaluation

Various tunnel engineering support services

Preparation of construction plans and specifications

Preparation of cost estimates and schedules

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering

U.S. citizenship is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications

Registered as an E.I.T.

Strong technical writing and presentation skills

Flexibility to work on a variety of projects, including highways, bridges, and tunnels

Flexibility to occasionally work alternate schedules (nights, weekends, and holidays) and short‑notice work assignments depending on project needs

Detail oriented and strong problem solving ability

Good interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

Ability to clearly communicate technical information in layman’s terms

Master’s degree preferred

Previous experience with internships

Software experience: AutoCAD, MicroStation, MS Office, and structural analysis software experience

Compensation Range: $80,000 – $90,000 per year.
