The Physician Assistant (PA) provides expert clinical guidance in a specialized field and coordinates patient care quality initiatives. This role requires varying shifts, on-call rotations, including nights, and weekends as needed. Provides service to patients in acute, short and long term care settings by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. Obtains a thorough medical history from patients and, depending on patient population and setting, performs examinations and assessments to determine patient needs. With other healthcare professionals, analyzes and interprets information collected from patient history, medical records, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop and establish appropriate diagnoses. Coordinates care, rounds on patients when necessary, and collaborates with providers to independently deliver care. Formulates treatment plans and prescribes medications as appropriate within legal scope to aid recovery and manage pain. Maintains complete and detailed records of health care plans and prognoses in a timely manner. Refers patients to specialists when conditions exceed scope of practice. Provides patient education to promote health, reduce risk factors, and prevent disease. May cover hospital consultations, rounding, and assist with patient procedures. Conducts research in the area of specialty and applies evidence-based guidelines to improve patient care and outcomes. Keeps current knowledge of state regulations for advanced practice providers and payer systems (Medicare, Medicaid, etc.). Responsibilities

Provide care in collaboration with physicians and other health professionals Assess, diagnose, and treat patients; develop plans and prescribe medications as appropriate Maintain records and coordinate care across settings Consult with or refer to specialists when needed Educate patients and families on prevention and management Cover hospital consultations, rounding, and assist with procedures as needed Qualifications

Required:

Master’s or Baccalaureate degree (Associate’s or Nursing Degree if training prior to 1994). Successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or its predecessors. Demonstrated current competence in caring for patients in the past 12 months or completion of an ARC-PA approved program in the past 12 months. Successful completion of the National Certification Examination and current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Current DEA license to prescribe controlled substances. Experience and credentials:

This is a .9 – 1.0 FTE APP 2 position. Hours: 8 or 9 am to noon with hospitalists; 12:30–5 pm in the ED as the 2nd provider (primary ED provider on shift). Mon-Fri. Demonstrated involvement with at least 30 patients in the past 12 months or recent ARC-PA program completion. Benefits

Compensation Package: Sanford Health offers a nationally competitive compensation plan plus an advanced practice provider benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401K, disability, life insurance, CME allowance, time away, malpractice insurance and tail coverage, and relocation allowance. Annual compensation range (based on 1.0 FTE): $103,020 - $174,505. Actual offers vary based on education, training, certification, experience, and job requirements. Additional Information
