Responsibilities
The incumbent has authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the nursing process.
Accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge and skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes.
Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Registered Nurse (RN) - Level I, as defined within the job description.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills at the advanced beginner level to provide care relevant to the patient(s) under their care and applies principles of growth and development over the life span.
Assess and interpret patient data needed to identify each patient’s age-specific needs. Provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
Minimum Qualifications Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Experience
One (1) year of nursing experience.

Promotes effective communication among interprofessional team members and healthcare consumers.
Influences policy to promote safe patient care.
Utilizes appropriate resources in providing care, especially in sensitive situations.
Incorporates processes to enhance the organizational plan of growth and influence.
Participates in developing strategies to promote healthy communities and practice environments.
Recognizes strategies to improve nursing quality.
Provides critical review and evaluation of policies, procedures, and guidelines to improve quality of healthcare.
Demonstrates understanding of data collection and utilization.
Disseminates educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.
Engages in activities related to nurse sensitive indicators to enhance quality of care.
Participates in continuing professional development.
Identifies ethical situations and seeks assistance of appropriate colleagues.
Identifies ways to maintain and improve an ethical work environment conducive to safe, quality health care.
Adheres to the moral and legal rights of patients.
Engages in opportunities for work/life balance.
Special Requirements
For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements: completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards.
Physical Requirements
Minimum lifting of 35 pounds with use of lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated.
Heavy/Hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying 40+ lbs.
Normal visual and hearing acuity required for assessing patient conditions.
Working Environment
Working protracted or irregular hours.
Working around biohazards and infectious diseases.
Working with or near the deceased.
Working with hands in water and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
Skills and Abilities
Interpersonal skills to positively and effectively communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
Competent clinical practice and critical thinking to deliver patient care efficiently with all health care providers.
Flexibility in response to changes in work volume, staff, and scheduling.
Ability to work under highly stressful conditions and adapt to varying workloads.
CAPE Program and Career Ladder The CAPE program is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, reward quality clinical performance, promote quality nursing, and improve job satisfaction for inpatient direct care nurses. To apply for the next level, the CAPE nurse must meet the requirements of their current level and the required years of nursing experience, degree, and certification. Nurses at levels 3–6 must complete five competencies annually to maintain their level. Level and eligibility details follow:
Level 1: No experience required; new graduates enter at Level 1 with a diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher.
Level 2: One year of experience; meets requirements for previous level.
Level 3: Two years of experience, plus one specialty certification; certification preferred but not required.
Level 4: BSN or higher (or ADN/diploma with 5 years experience); one specialty certification required; active participation in unit-level QI or shared governance.
Level 5: MSN or higher with experience as specified; one specialty certification required; participation in organization-level QI and governance.
Level 6: 7+ years experience with MSN or higher; consideration of other health-related advanced degrees; one specialty certification; organization-level governance and impact.
Job Details
Full-time (36 hours/week), night shift (7 PM – 7 AM).
Rotating weekends and holidays.
Scheduled weekly hours: 36; Shift: Night; Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt.
