Acute Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - Inpatient, Medical ICU - Nights
Location: West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC), Marrero, LA
Position: Medical Critical Care NP or PA — Full-time — Nights; 12-hour shifts; weekend and holiday rotation.
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Neuro Critical Care provides advanced health care to individuals, families or groups as an advanced or expert clinician. Performs assessment of individual health, analyzes data to determine medical and nursing care needed, plans a treatment strategy to meet identified needs, and evaluates responses to nursing and medical interventions.
General Duties
Assessment: Assess complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions. Use relevant data to evaluate physiologic instability and formulate plan of care.
Clinical Interventions: Perform therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Analyze indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost-benefits of interventions.
Plan of Care: Manage the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation based on patient response. Facilitate transitions between health care settings. Incorporate health promotion and prevention measures.
Education: Serve as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team; act as a consultant to multidisciplinary team members.
Professional Development: Participate in scholarly activities, maintain competencies, identify learning needs, and support development of nurses, APPs, students and other providers.
Patient Safety and Quality: Demonstrate commitment to patient safety; participate in system reporting to improve safety.
Education & Licenses
Master’s degree from an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program (required).
Licenses/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association
Nurse Practitioner Certification or Physician Assistant Certification
Registered Nursing License (RN) – Louisiana State Board of Nursing
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Louisiana State Board of Nursing
Or Physician Assistant (PA) – Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
Experience & Qualifications Requirements include completion of a Master’s degree from an approved NP/PA program and current professional licensure/certifications listed above.
