The Surgical Technician III performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, and other professionals in the operating room. This position works under the supervision of the registered nurse in delivering safe, effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period. This role interacts with patients and health care team members while maintaining surgical department standards and participates in procedures for patients of all ages, pediatric through geriatrics. May assist in circulating duties under the direct supervision of a qualified registered nurse. The following information describes the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this role. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation. Maintains current knowledge/certification. Maintains supplies/inventory for the department. Performs defined responsibilities/duties to address the unique needs of the client. Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment and monitoring patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards. Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care. Demonstrates the skills and judgment to implement the medical plan of care and nursing interventions as necessary for the patient. Evaluates problems, care provided, and patient responses to meet needs and ensure quality of care. Maintains accurate documentation of nursing care provided for continuity of care. Directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel in care as assigned. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Supports Professional Governance through engagement with Unit Based Council and nursing councils. Assists in other duties as assigned to support department and organizational operations. May be required to remain on campus before, during, and after severe weather or disasters. Qualifications
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent Required Technical Diploma/Certificate in Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology required or Certificate of Completion Military trained corpsmen, Hospital on-the-job training program required Licenses and Certifications
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – State of Florida or eligible compact state upon hire BLS for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association) upon hire Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Must be able to return to the hospital/facility within 30 minutes of a callback Strong integrity and surgical conscience Excellent attention to detail and follow-through Ability to stand for long periods and handle instruments Ability to move quickly without compromising quality Good memory and ability to anticipate surgeon and patient needs Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection Demonstrated proficiency in critical care nursing knowledge and skills Baptist Health Care is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
