Speech and Language Pathologist Job Summary
The Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates, plans, and administers comprehensive speech therapy modalities/regimens as prescribed by a physician to patients with speech, voice, language, cognitive-communicative, and oral-pharyngeal swallowing disorders in their place of residence for the purpose of improving and/or restoring speech and/or swallowing functions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide aural rehabilitation for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing Provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disorders Work with people who want to communicate more effectively (e.g., accent modification or other communication enhancement) Work with people who have difficulty producing speech sounds correctly or fluently Other duties as assigned Qualifications
Experience working with people who have receptive and expressive language disorders and understanding of language domains (form, content, use) Ability to work with people who have cognitive-communication disorders such as problems organizing thoughts, paying attention, remembering, planning, or problem-solving Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases and do word processing Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher 3-5 years experience, preferably in an education environment Working Conditions
Hearing and speaking to conduct group training, exchange information in person, electronically and over the telephone Ability to read printed material and computer screens; understand speech at normal levels Dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and office equipment Physical requirements include kneeling, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 10 pounds Accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions Compensation
