The First Assistant Surgical Tech works under the direct supervision of the surgeon to facilitate the procedure and process of surgery. Responsibilities include preparing and positioning the patient for surgery, assisting in visualization of the operating field, providing hemostasis, harvesting surgical grafts, performing closure of incisions, and applying wound dressings in accordance with the surgeon’s preference. You will work collaboratively with the entire surgical team to monitor sterile integrity of the surgical field, ensure all surgical counts are correct, and relay necessary information to other team members to ensure appropriate patient care. Responsibilities
Assist the assigned surgeon in the surgical procedure. Know your scope of practice and follow it, along with any state/institutional laws or parameters at all times. Assist the operating room staff with patient positioning, prepping and draping to the surgeon’s preference. Demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy as it relates to assigned procedures and tasks. Demonstrate understanding of instruments and supplies needed for the assigned procedures. Qualifications
