Overview
The Department of Public Health is seeking an
Epidemiologist I
to join their team. This position will conduct investigations used in surveillance, prevention, and control of fetal and infant health conditions for public health program planning related to the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) program. This is a grant-funded term position, funded through 05/31/2026. This position is funded by the Department of Health and Senior Services, and thus far has been renewed annually.
Compensation and Benefits The starting salary is $26.70 - $32.04 hourly depending upon the candidate\'s qualifications as well as budgetary considerations. Responsibilities
Support FIMR program activities, including preparation of case summaries and synthesis of case review findings.
Represent FIMR program in community partnership development and mentoring.
Perform epidemiological assessment and analysis in identifying fetal and infant health problems.
Prepare and disseminate routine fetal and infant health reports depicting current trends.
Provide epidemiologic input into public health studies, programs, and community partnerships and processes at local or state levels.
Represent culturally competent surveillance, prevention, and control of Saint Louis County health activities.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Equivalent to a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH, MSPH) with epidemiology, analysis, or assessment experience.
Preference may be given to applicants who have experience with R.
Requires the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Incident Command System (ICS) training completion within six months of employment.
Requires Health and Human Service’s (HHS) Human Research Protection Training completion within six months of employment.
Selection and Appointment A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant, including recentness and appropriateness of the applicant\'s education and experience, answers to supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated, and any other appropriate information available. The committee may admit to the interview only those with the most job-related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant\'s earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.
After initial interviews, an email will be sent with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. The cost of screening will be covered by the County. New employees will have 30 calendar days, after their first day of employment, to attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status. Instructions on how to submit this attestation will be provided once employment has begun. County employees are not required to be fully vaccinated, but those who are not fully vaccinated must submit to weekly COVID-19 testing until they are fully vaccinated or St. Louis County geographic reaches a 70% vaccination rate and a moderate transmission level of COVID-19 as defined by the CDC.
