Overview
Staff Veterinarian – Western Iowa at Iowa Select Farms. This role provides veterinary service and support to Iowa Select Farms animals, with emphasis on multiplication system veterinary support and regional commercial sow farm support. As a member of the production leadership team, you will develop and implement health strategies to achieve system goals and ensure responsible antibiotic use and compliance with health standards. Responsibilities
Provide veterinary service and support to Iowa Select Farms animals. Support multiplication systems and regional commercial sow farms. Develop and implement Biosecurity Protocols for the system. Assess current health issues and develop short- and long-term strategies. Assist production personnel in on-site health assessments, including diagnostic collection and data organization. Provide leadership within the production management team and act as a conduit for innovative health solutions. Proactively source and implement solutions from industry meetings, contacts, research, collaborations. Develop programs for responsible use of antibiotics and testing programs to monitor health. Develop and manage programs to achieve budgeted costs for animal health and supplies. Ensure compliance with VFDs, including feed medications, water medications, and other requirements. Maintain current PQA+ Advisor Certification. Train swine caretakers to identify herd health issues and communicate concerns to production management. Monitor vaccine and medication use, assess techniques, and evaluate product results. Train caretakers and vaccination crews on storage, preparation, mixing, and dilution of vaccines and medications. Reinforce and implement biosecurity protocols; assess biosecurity during site visits. Train caretakers on euthanasia techniques and acceptable methods. Evaluate ventilation, feed and water systems relative to herd health and well-being. conduct one-on-one training with farm personnel to improve production outcomes. Use production records to assess effectiveness of herd health programs. Integrate responsibilities to administer health programs at animal, farm, and herd levels within Health Services and Production Management Team. Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with emphasis in swine production; experience in the swine field required. Work Environment & Requirements
Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week with possible evenings and weekends as needed. Minimum 50% time on farm in the field with pigs; tasks may occur outdoors and in loud environments. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and handle routine physical tasks; able to climb gates up to 48 inches; capable of working in variable weather. Regular travel required; use of company vehicle provided. Company Values
